World Series Of Poker Players

The World Series of Poker is the most famous poker event in the world.  Being the biggest event in the poker calendar, it has produced some of the most memorable and famous players of all time.  Here are the best World Series of Poker Players of all time.

Poker Players With The Most WSOP Main Event Wins

The Main Event at the WSOP is the toughest tournament to win.  There are some legendary players that have shown their world class poker skills by winning the Main Event more than once.

Johnny Moss

Johnny Moss is a poker icon.  Born in Texas, he is the typical picture of a road gambler and became known as the “Grand Old Man” for the length of time he spent living and playing poker.  Johnny Moss won the Championship Event three times in 1970, 1971 and 1974.  In addition, he has won a total of 8 bracelets, placing him in 4th position for total bracelets.

Stu Ungar

Stu “The Kid” Ungar has also won the Main Event three times and is considered one of the most talented poker players of all time.  He won it back-to-back in 1980 and 1981, and then again in 1997.  For his 1997 win, he was dubbed “The Comeback Kid” for his re-emergence and victory after a long hiatus.  Stu is known for his ultra-aggressive play and almost clairvoyant ability to read his opponents hands.  Stu was also said to have a photographic memory.  If not for his struggles with drugs and sportsbetting, it is likely he could have won even more titles.  Stu won a total of five bracelets in his on and off career.

Doyle Brunson

Doyle Brunson is a living legend and one of the most well-known poker players in the world today.  One of the original Texas road gamblers, Doyle has won the Championship back-to-back in 1976 and 1977.  Doyle also has a total of 10 bracelets tying him for 2nd with Johnny Chan.  Now well into his 70s, Doyle is still as active as always on the poker scene and has won a bracelet as recently as 2005.

Johnny Chan

Johnny Chan won the Main Event back-to-back in 1987 and 1988.  He came close to winning three times in a row when he finished 2nd in 1989 to Phil Hellmuth.  Johnny Chan was the 1st World Series of Poker Player to win 10 bracelets and now ranks 2nd overall with Doyle Brunson for the most bracelets.  They are both just one bracelet behind Phil Hellmuth.

Poker Players With The Most WSOP Bracelets

With the excessively large fields numbering in the thousands for the Main Event, it is unlikely that there will be more multiple Main Event winners.  In recent times, the number of bracelets won overall is a sure sign of being the best.

Phil Hellmuth

Phil Hellmuth is one of the most well known World Series of Poker Players.  In 1989, Phil Hellmuth burst onto the poker scene defeating two time winner Johnny Chan in heads-up play to become the then youngest champion.  His 11 bracelets have further cemented his place in history, being the most bracelets ever won.  Hellmuth also holds the record for the most WSOP in the money cashes (75) and the most final table finishes (41).

Erik Seidel

Erik Seidel holds 8 bracelets, placing him 4th overall.  He was the runner-up at the Main Event in 1988, finishing 2nd to Johnny Chan.  Seidel made the final table again in 1999 when he finished in 4th place.  He has definitely proved that he is one of the greatest tournament players in the history of the WSOP.

Phil Ivey

Phil Ivey is widely considered to be one of the best poker players in the world today.  He is the youngest player to ever hold 8 bracelets.  With today’s massive fields for the Main Event, Phil Ivey proves he is a force to be reckoned with.  He finished 10th in 2003 and 7th in 2009.  This is one hot player to keep your eye on in the future as he continues to make history.

The best and most famous players in the world can be found on the Who’s Who list of WSOP Players.  The Series is the pinnacle of the poker world and a place where legends are made.

Even with today’s massive fields, the best players in the world are able to battle through hundreds and even thousands of entrants to show just how good they are at the game by winning the coveted gold bracelets again and again.

This is no small feat, and these multiple winners have proven to be the greatest World Series of Poker Players.
